The darker the blind the better it is at stopping heat and light transmitting through them. Therefore, we recommend darker fabrics for areas in the home where you want good light and heat control.

There is something called ‘U-Value’ which refers to a measure of the heat transmission. It can be through a building part (such as a wall or window) or a given thickness of a material (such as insulation). The lower the number the better. The most common type of window in houses in the UK are double glazed, which generally have a U-Value of 2.9. With just a pair of energy efficient blinds, you can bring this number down to a whopping 2.1. You’ll save 30% of your energy!

Wooden shutters can do even better by bringing your U-Value down to 1.9. These numbers do depend on the glazing and size of the window, and the material used for the blind. Therefore, it is a great option to keep your house energy efficient. Overall investing in a high-quality pair of blinds or a good wooden shutter will end up benefiting you.

It’s a scientific fact that heat is attracted to cold. For example, in winter months, indoor heating moves toward and escapes through windows to the outdoors.
